Description
Embark on an exploration of Dublin's historical gems with a guided excursion that includes the Book of Kells, the Old Library of Trinity College, and Dublin Castle. Prepare to be captivated by the city’s vibrant heritage and artistry!
Tour Details
Our meeting point will be at the Edmund Burke Statue, centrally located in Dublin. This experience is essential for enthusiasts of history!
We'll begin our journey at the renowned site housing the exceptional Celtic manuscript. The Book of Kells, regarded as 'the most precious object in the western world,' boasts an age of more than 1,200 years and serves as a stunning example of medieval artistic expression.
This extraordinary book is preserved in the Old Library of Trinity College and contains a Latin version of the four gospels. Throughout the tour, we will delve into the book's fascinating history, its complex symbolism, the detailed artistry involved in its creation, and the significant contributions made by monks and Vikings in ensuring its survival.
Following a 40-minute exploration focusing on the Book of Kells, you will have around 10 minutes of free time to visit the Trinity College shop. Then, we’ll proceed to the statue of Molly Malone for a brief interlude where we will discuss the interesting backstory of this iconic figure.
Next, our journey takes us to the center of Dublin to explore its historic castle. Built atop an ancient Viking site in the 13th century, it has functioned as a fortress, prison, treasury, court, and a symbol of English authority in Ireland.
During a 50-minute visit, we will tour the castle's exterior, marveling at its architectural details, while also catching a glimpse of the Record and Octagonal Towers alongside the lushness of its gardens.
As our 3-hour tour concludes near Dublin Castle, we bid you farewell with a heartfelt Slán!
