2 or 3 Day Tour of the Silent Zone, Mapimí & Ojuela
Your adventure begins early with a pickup from your hotel at 5 am, embarking on an exhilarating journey through some of Durango's most captivating regions over the next couple of days.
Day 1: Travel from Durango to Mapimí, Ojuela, and the Silent Zone
After meeting you at your hotel in Durango, we will head toward the charming Pueblo Mágico of Mapimí, where a satisfying breakfast awaits. Our first visit will be to the Benito Juárez Museum, the former residence of the distinguished politician during the Mexican Republic era.
We will continue our journey with a visit to the Rosario Caves, famous for their phosphorite extraction in the 20th century. Here, you will get to admire varied salt formations and perhaps glimpse the elf and the piano. Following this exploration, we will proceed to the deserted village of Ojuela where we will tour the Santa Rita mine and traverse its stunning suspension bridge.
By 4 pm, we will arrive at the Silent Zone, where a delightful lunch awaits. Once we conclude our meal, we will immerse ourselves in the area's rich legends, including tales of the Athena missile and its magnetic anomalies. Additionally, we will visit the Hikuri shrine to learn about shamanism and the significance of cacti in this context. The first day will draw to a close with dinner, a bonfire, and a fire ceremony.
Day 2: Silent Zone Return to Durango
After breakfast, we will make our way to the railway station that once housed the NASA train. Our next destination will be the Tetas de Juana Hill for some photo opportunities, followed by a pass through the deserted mercury mines, the Carillo Station, and the nearby salt flats. Along this route, we will engage in discussions concerning the enigmas that envelop these locations and the surrounding region.
Next, we will participate in a symbolic ceremony in honor of the air, before returning to camp for lunch. The afternoon will include a ritual dedicated to the earth before concluding the tour as we take you back to your hotel in Durango by 2:30 pm.
Extension: 3 Day Tour
For those interested in extending their experience, you may opt for an extra day. This extension will take us to the historic Los Remedios estate, where we will explore the site’s remnants and enjoy leisure time in the thermal baths at El Ojo de la Cueva, including participation in the water ritual.
Following this enriching experience, we will return to the Silent Zone for lunch and eventually head back to your hotel in Durango, arriving by 2:30 pm.
