Edinburgh Castle Guided Tour
Description
Edinburgh Castle stands as one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks, beckoning visitors to uncover its rich history and captivating secrets. This guided tour provides an opportunity to explore the castle, perched atop an ancient volcano, offering insights into its fascinating past.
Tour Description
The tour group assembles at the Royal Mile, just outside St. Giles's Cathedral. From there, we will proceed towards the striking medieval castle, renowned for its grandeur and historical significance. As we approach the castle, we will be treated to breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings.
After receiving your tickets and immersing yourself in the rich history of the site, we will venture inside to explore the castle's main buildings, the three museums within the citadel, and the war prisons.
At the highest point of the castle, we will encounter several remarkable sites:
- The oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, St. Margaret's Chapel, dating back to around 1130.
- Crown Square, the castle's main courtyard, where we will see the Great Hall and its impressive collection of weapons and armor.
- The Scottish National War Memorial.
- The Royal Palace, notable for being the birthplace of James Stuart, son of Mary Stuart.
Within the Royal Palace, we will visit the vault that contains the Scottish crown jewels, known as the Honours of Scotland, as well as the Stone of Destiny, historically used during royal coronations in the Middle Ages.
The guided tour will conclude after 1.5 hours in the vicinity of the castle.
