Holyroodhouse Palace: The King's Gallery Tickets
Description
If you are passionate about art, consider securing your entry to The King's Gallery, an exhibition venue situated at the entrance of Holyroodhouse Palace, which serves as the official residence of the British royal family in Scotland.
The King’s Gallery
The King’s Gallery, bearing the name of King Charles III’s coronation (formerly known as The Queen’s Gallery), is an exhibition venue within the Holyroodhouse Palace grounds, the official Edinburgh residence of His Majesty.
This gallery, primarily focused on art and cultural heritage, was constructed on the site of a previous church and school established in the 1840s. The initiative to develop an art gallery aligning with the classic 19th-century architectural style commenced in 1999.
In November 2002, the gallery was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II during the festivities commemorating her Golden Jubilee.
At present, The King’s Gallery operates without a permanent collection, instead offering a rotation of temporary exhibitions sourced from the Royal Collection. These displays feature artwork from the Old Masters, exquisite furniture, decorative pieces, and selections from a vast photographic archive.
Current Temporary Exhibition: The Edwardians: Age of Elegance
Until December 6, 2026, visitors can explore the significant temporary exhibition entitled The Edwardians: Age of Elegance at The King’s Gallery.
This exhibition delves into the opulent lives of two of Britain’s most stylish royal pairs: King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, along with King George V and Queen Mary. It emphasizes their familial connections, royal ceremonies, global travels, and enthusiasm for art collection.
Following a successful exhibition in London, this showcase assembles over 150 items, including garments, artworks, and literature, as well as personal mementos such as jewelry, photographs, and tableware. Notably, more than half of these items are being displayed in Scotland for the first time.
Additionally, visitors will find artworks from the Royal Collection crafted by renowned artists of the time, including Fabergé, Tiffany & Co., and Edward Burne-Jones.
