Loch Ness & the Scottish Highlands: Itinerary for the 2-Day Tour
Your adventure begins with a morning pickup at a central location in Edinburgh, setting the stage for your exploration of the Scottish Highlands. The first destination will be Luss, a charming conservation village nestled beside Loch Lomond.
As you venture further north, you’ll follow the winding shores of the renowned loch, passing through the rugged Scottish countryside. Take in the stunning vistas of Rannoch Moor and the majestic Black Mount mountain range, ultimately arriving at Glencoe. Here, you can take a moment to walk around this legendary site, known for the tragic events of the Clan Macdonald Massacre in 1692.
Continuing your journey, you will arrive at Fort William, a historic town located in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the tallest peak in Britain. After enjoying lunch there, your tour will lead you along the picturesque shores of Loch Ness. From the comfort of your luxury bus, keep an eye out for the Medieval remains of Urquhart Castle, but seeing any mythical creatures remains a mystery! The first day's explorations conclude in Inverness, where you will spend the night in a hotel.
On the second day, you’ll have the flexibility to customize your itinerary. Options may include a visit to Culloden Battlefield to learn about the Jacobite uprisings and Bonnie Prince Charlie or discovering the ancient stones of the Neolithic Clava Cairns.
During the return trip to Edinburgh, take advantage of a possible visit to Blair Athol Distillery. Enjoy a tour and tasting of exquisite scotch whiskies. Please note that availability may vary, and in case the distillery visit isn't possible, you'll have the opportunity to explore the historic Victorian town of Pitlochry. As the journey continues, cross the breathtaking Queensferry Crossing, a marvel of engineering linking the Forth Road Bridge and the iconic Forth Rail Bridge, showcasing centuries of Scottish engineering prowess.
The return journey will bring you back to Edinburgh, marking the conclusion of your two-day adventure in the Highlands and around Loch Ness.
