Experience the breathtaking Lago del Desierto at your preferred pace with an exciting excursion from El Chaltén. In addition to witnessing the expansive lake flanked by picturesque forests and mountains, you'll have the chance to embark on a hike to the Huemul Glacier.

Lago del Desierto Excursion

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel at the designated time, followed by a journey toward the awe-inspiring Lago del Desierto. This approximately one-hour trip includes several stops to take in the stunning Patagonia landscapes.

Upon arrival at Lago del Desierto, you'll enjoy around 5.5 hours of leisure time to explore as you like.

Options include taking a scenic boat ride aboard one of the tourist vessels that sail across the lake or opting for a remarkable hike to the summit of the Huemul Glacier.

If you prefer to remain by the lake, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views of Mount Fitz Roy, rising dramatically to an impressive 11,000 feet. A stroll around the Lago del Desierto will unveil the lush vegetation of the Patagonian woodlands, populated by majestic white oaks and Antarctic beeches indigenous to this region.

Following your exploration of the pristine surroundings, your return to the hotels will be scheduled for approximately 7.5 hours after the initial pickup.

Optional Activities

Boat Trip

For those interested in a 45-minute boat ride on the Lago del Desierto, tickets must be purchased in cash upon arrival at the lake. The price is 45000 ARS.

Boat Departure Schedule: Available Thursday to Tuesday at 12 PM, with no service on Wednesdays.

Hiking

If you wish to hike the Huemul Glacier, a cash payment for the hiking route access fee is required. The fee is 600 ARS. The 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) trail takes about an hour and a half (round trip).
