Route of the Flowers Tour
Description
Exploring El Salvador would be incomplete without a journey to its vibrant villages. The streets of Juayúa, Nahuizalco, Apaneca, and Ataco are filled with color, tradition, and art, making the Ruta de las Flores a truly unique experience.
Description
We will begin our adventure with a pickup from designated locations, leaving the city behind as we embark on the renowned Ruta de las Flores. This famous stretch is often referred to as the Route 66 of El Salvador.
The journey will take us through charming roads and vibrant villages nestled amid lush nature. Our initial stop will be at Juayúa, where you'll discover the intriguing origin of its name. Located approximately 3,300 feet above sea level, we will explore the quaint historic center, taking in notable landmarks such as the Santa Lucía Church and the Cristo Negro Parish Church.
Our next destination is Nahuizalco, where we’ll spend about an hour. Here, you'll have a chance to meet some residents who still converse in the indigenous Nawat language, and witness the enduring traditions of weaving and hat-making.
As we continue to Apaneca, the brightly painted houses welcome us. In the picturesque village square, you’ll interact with local residents and explore a variety of enticing handicraft shops.
After approximately an hour in Apaneca, we will proceed to our final stop along the Ruta de las Flores: Ataco. Elevated at 3,900 feet, this vibrant village features colorful street murals and a lively central park. Spend over an hour immersing yourself in the local culture and traditions, and delight in sampling the delicious artisan coffee produced in the area.
