Your guided adventure through Elvas commences at the Praça da República, right in the center of the city. Are you prepared? Let’s embark!

We will begin by admiring the magnificent 12th-century wall, constructed during a time when this city served as a vital point in Al-Andalus.

Next, our journey will take us to the Alcazaba and the Castle, positioned on the elevated section of the walls. Excitingly, its roots trace back to the 9th century. Here, the breathtaking city view unfolds, revealing the bastioned system, an engineering marvel recognized as a World Heritage Site.

Additionally, we’ll encounter the impressive Amoreira Aqueduct, stretching over 800 arches and measuring an impressive 4.97 miles (8 km) in length. We will meander through the charming streets of Elvas until we arrive at the Igreja das Domínicas and the Old Cathedral of Elvas, which stand as remarkable representations of the spiritual and artistic flourishing that characterized the 16th century, coinciding with Portugal’s age of exploration.
