Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

This experience invites you to embark on a hiking journey followed by a boat excursion on the Fúquene lagoon, where you'll immerse yourself in the local legends, rich culture, and stunning natural surroundings of the area.

Hiking and Boat Experience in Fúquene

Your adventure begins at 9 am at the Fúquene lagoon's port, where you'll board a boat for a scenic hour-and-a-half ride across the lake, situated at over 2,400 meters (7874 feet) above sea level.

As we glide along the water, we'll pass by the notable island of El Santuario, once home to the Muisca temples. According to local lore, the deity Fu, depicted with the head and tail of a fox combined with a human form, is said to protect the cannibal muzos from beneath the lake’s surface. Along the way, keep an eye out for the diverse birdlife that inhabits this picturesque area, including blackbirds and American coots.

Upon our return to land, we will begin a hiking trek lasting one and a half hours along the remnants of the old Fúquene railway. This route will lead us to a tunnel that burrows into the mountain, during which we will discuss the various properties of the unique endemic plants found in the region.

After the hike, you'll have the opportunity to savor a traditional dish featuring locally sourced vegetables and rice. Rejuvenated, we will then participate in a reed basket-making workshop, exploring the process of treating the fibers and the gathering of raw materials found along the riverbanks.

Our excursion will conclude back at our starting location by 3 pm, having enjoyed a day filled with discovery and local culture.
