Merzouga Desert 2-Day Trip
Description
Embark on a memorable journey by spending a night in a traditional haima amidst the desert with this 2-day expedition to the Merzouga Desert, concluding in Marrakech.
Merzouga Desert 2-Day Journey
Day 1: Fez - Ifrane - Azrou - Erfoud - Merzouga
Upon gathering in Fez or being collected at your hotel, we'll leave behind the lively atmosphere of the city and delve into the heart of Morocco. Our adventure begins as we navigate the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through charming villages such as Ifrane, often dubbed "Moroccan Switzerland" due to its European-style architecture, and Azrou, known as one of the prominent Amazigh towns in the nation.
Next, we will traverse the Ziz Valley and the Ziz Gorges until we arrive at Erfoud, marking the starting point of our desert journey toward Merzouga.
As the sun begins to set, we'll mount our camels to head towards our camp. On arrival, a sumptuous traditional dinner awaits us under the vast night sky, where we can experience the tranquility of the Moroccan desert by soaking in the enchanting silence and gazing at the stars.
Day 2: Merzouga - Rissani - Alnif - Tizi N'Tfrkhin - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
Before the dawn graces the desert, we will rise early to witness the stunning moment of sunrise in the Erg Chebbi desert. Following this unforgettable sight, we will ride back on our camels to a hotel for breakfast and a refreshing shower (depending on the selected camp, breakfast and shower may occur before the camel trek).
As we depart from the desert, our route to Marrakech will lead us through the picturesque palm grove of Tafilalet and the renowned village of Rissani, the historical cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, which continues to hold power in Morocco.
Continuing our journey, we will cross the acacia plateaus and the rocky expanses of the region until we reach Alnif. There, we will navigate through the Anti Atlas mountain range and Tizi N'tfarkhin, as well as the village of Tinghir and the captivating Dades Valley.
Around midday, we will arrive at Klaat M'Gouna for a brief respite, allowing us to stretch and indulge in traditional Moroccan dishes to replenish our energy before continuing our journey. Just before reaching Marrakech, we will take in two of the most emblematic locations in Morocco: the splendid town of Ouarzazate and the mesmerizing High Atlas Mountains.
By approximately 8:30 pm, we will arrive in Marrakech, concluding our delightful experience in the Moroccan desert.
