Tour Overview

Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Erfoud – Merzouga

Around the scheduled time, we will collect you in Fez to commence this private adventure southward through the stunning Middle Atlas. This mountainous area, spanning 350 kilometers (217 miles) from the southwest to the northwest of Morocco, is renowned for its lush cedar forests.

Our first stop after roughly 1.5 hours of travel will be Ifrane. This enchanting town is often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco, owing to the Swiss-style architecture of its homes. It's also known as one of the finest ski resorts in the country.

We'll proceed with a 30-minute drive to reach Azrou, recognized as one of the prominent Berber cities in Morocco. Following this, we'll embark on a scenic 2-hour route through the Ziz Valley and its gorges, leading us to Midelt, where you will have an hour for a leisurely lunch on your own.

Post lunch, we will travel approximately 3 hours to Erfoud, the gateway to the magnificent Merzouga Desert.

We will reach this arid paradise at sunset, when a breathtaking sunset over the dunes can be admired. A brief camel ride will then take us to our desert camp, where we will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Azrou – Ifrane – Fez

The second day begins with a magical sunrise over Merzouga. From late October to March, breakfast will be served at the camp prior to a camel ride to witness the sunrise among the Merzouga dunes. During other months, the sunrise experience can be enjoyed directly on the dunes, reached by foot from the camp. After this, we will return for breakfast before embarking on our camel trek.

Having bid farewell to Merzouga, we will begin our approx. half-hour journey to the towns of Tafilalt and Rissani, the latter being notable as the origin of the Alaouite dynasty.

After delving into its historical significance, we will spend around 5 hours traveling through the Ziz Valley to the outskirts of Midelt, where an hour-long break for lunch is provided. Once refreshed, we'll continue for an additional 2 hours to Azrou and Ifrane.

Finally, from Ifrane, we will journey for approximately 1.5 hours back to the pickup point in Fez, with arrival expected by 6 pm.

Pickup Details

Your pickup in Fez will depend on your accommodation location:

If you are staying within the Medina: pickup will be at the Blue Gate of Bab Bou Jeloud.
If your accommodation is outside the Medina: pickup will be arranged from your hotel or riad.

Camp Options

When reserving your 2-day private excursion to the Merzouga Desert, you may select from two different camp categories:

Standard camp: tents accommodate up to 4 individuals and feature a private bathroom.
Superior camp: tents accommodate up to 5 individuals and include a private bathroom as well.

The two camps are completely distinct, offering different food varieties and unique interior tent decorations.

Be aware that during peak seasons, such as Easter or Christmas, it might be necessary to provide shared bathroom facilities in the standard category.

It is worth noting that air conditioning is only available in the superior camp, incurring an additional charge of 30EUR per haima.

If you’re staying inside the Fez Medina, we’ll pick you up at the scheduled time at the Blue Gate of Bab Bou Jeloud.
If you’re staying outside the Fez Medina, we’ll pick you up at the scheduled time at your hotel or riad.

Camp Info

When booking your 2-day private tour to the Merzouga Desert from Fez, you can choose between 2 desert camp categories:

Standard camp: the tents in this category accommodate up to 4 people and have a private bathroom
Superior camp: the tents accommodate up to 5 people and also have a private bathroom

The standard and superior camps are completely separate and differ in the variety of food and the interior decoration of the tents.

Please note that during high-season dates, such as Easter or Christmas, it may be necessary to stay in camps with shared bathrooms in the standard category.

You should also note that air conditioning is only available in the superior camp and has an additional cost of 30EUR per haima.

Additional Info

Equipment: we recommend wearing comfortable, closed shoes, as well as loose, comfortable clothing. At night, temperatures drop significantly in the desert, so it’s also advisable to bring some warm clothing. It’s also very important to bring a cap or hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Luggage: you can bring 1 cabin-size suitcase per person, although it’s preferable to bring a backpack instead of a suitcase.
The price for a 1.5-liter (0.4-gallon) bottle of water is 10MAD.
