Rolli Palaces Guided Tour
Description
Embark on a guided exploration of the Rolli palaces, where we will discover some of the most opulent residences in Genoa. These magnificent structures were created by the affluent and illustrious families during the city’s Golden Age in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Rolli Palaces Exploration
The journey will commence at the designated meeting point at Via Garibaldi 12, situated in one of the most historic areas of Genoa, renowned for its concentration of architectural masterpieces.
The Palazzi dei Rolli received the designation of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. This stunning collection of private mansions was included in the "Rolli", a public hospitality lottery system. If selected, each palace was obligated to welcome the most notable dignitaries during their stay, serving as a lavish abode for kings, princes, diplomats, and state guests of the Republic of Genoa. These residences are characterized by their opulence and artistic elegance, having attracted the attention of artists such as the eminent Flemish painter Rubens, who in the early 17th century published a celebrated collection of palace drawings, reflecting noble living standards.
During our journey, we will be captivated by the grand reception rooms, exquisite decorations, remarkable Genoese artworks, stunning frescoes, and the extraordinary living quarters that reflect the lifestyle of these illustrious families.
Our first stop will be at the Palazzo Rosso, a residence from the 17th century featuring exceptional art collections and furnishings from the Brignole-Sale family. We will delve into its history as we wander through elaborately adorned rooms filled with frescoes and decorative stuccoes.
Next, we will proceed to the Nicolosio Lomellino Palace, also referred to as Palazzo Podestà. Inside this remarkable Renaissance structure, we will take in the impressive frescoes and stucco artwork that beautifully embellish the ceilings of the palace.
Our exploration will continue at the Palace of Tobia Pallavicino, commonly known as the Palazzo Carrega-Cataldi. This striking building, currently home to the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, showcases significant works by renowned Genoese Baroque artists, including the illustrious Lorenzo de Ferrari.
To conclude our tour, we will visit one of the most breathtaking areas of the Palazzo di Tobia Pallavicini: the opulent Golden Gallery. The intricate details of this room exemplify the sumptuousness found throughout the Rolli palaces.
Finally, we will cap off the tour at the Imperial Palace, where we will take in the exquisite décor and magnificent frescoes that make this site a fitting end to our exploration.
