Join us on this captivating exploration through Asturias!
Day Trip Overview
The adventure kicks off with a meeting at a convenient location in downtown Gijón, after which we’ll travel deep into Asturias, heading towards the breathtaking Picos de Europa National Park.
Our journey will first lead us to one of northern Spain's most stunning natural locations: the Covadonga Lakes. We will take in a remarkable view from the Entrelagos viewpoint, observing the transparent waters of Lakes Enol and Ercina while uncovering insights into their glacial origin.
Next, we will visit the imposing Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga, characterized by its neo-Romanesque architecture. This site allows us to explore the legendary figure of Don Pelayo and the onset of the Reconquest. Within this area, we’ll enter the Holy Cave, home to the Virgin of Covadonga, affectionately known as La Santina. Additionally, we’ll visit the Royal Pantheon, where the remains of historic Asturian monarchs lie.
Our journey will then continue to Cangas de Onís, where a casual stroll will reveal its historical significance as the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias. You will enjoy 2 hours of leisure time to savor lunch and capture photos near the iconic Roman bridge, ensuring to snap a shot of the Cross of Victory located beneath its arch, a key symbol of Asturias.
In the afternoon, our expedition will lead us back to the coastline, specifically to the idyllic village of Lastres. Here, we’ll partake in a guided exploration of this fishing community, famed for its steep streets and stunning vistas of the Cantabrian Sea.
To wrap up the day, we will embark on our return trip, dropping you off at the initial meeting point in Gijón, marking the end of this 11-hour adventure.
Itinerary Adjustments
Please keep in mind that the Covadonga Lakes are situated within the Picos de Europa National Park, which enforces certain rules governing parking and access. Access may close due to management reasons or the time at the lakes may be adjusted without notice, as it is a national park. Should this occur, we will compensate by extending time at the other destinations included in the tour.
Access to the Covadonga Lakes
Depending on the designated parking area provided by the park, reaching the Covadonga Lakes will entail ascending either 200 or 400 steps.
Additional Day Tours
If this tour is fully booked, we suggest considering the small-group tour to Covadonga.
Alternately, you can opt for the excursion to the Covadonga Lakes, Cangas de Onís, and Lastres from Oviedo, or the day trip to Covadonga starting from Cangas de Onís.

Itinerary Changes
Please keep in mind that the Covadonga Lakes are located inside the Picos de Europa National Park, so access and parking depend on park regulations. It’s also possible that access may be closed for organizational reasons, or that the time spent at the lakes may be reduced without prior notice due to its status as a national park. If this happens, we’ll spend more time at the other stops on the tour.
Access to the Covadonga Lakes
Depending on the parking space assigned by the park, access to the Covadonga Lakes will include climbing either 200 or 400 steps.
