Reasons to Explore Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey
Nestled in the Ginals municipality, Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey exemplifies a classic 12th-century Cistercian structure. This ticket grants you the freedom to discover the abbey's history and architecture at your leisure.
Commonly referred to as Belloc Abbey, this site showcases the unique Gothic style of the Cistercian Order from the Middle Ages. Its well-preserved exterior has weathered numerous conflicts and upheavals, including a transformation during the French Revolution when it was repurposed as a farm.
The abbey underwent a significant revival starting in 1959, when art patrons Geneviève Bonnefoi and Pierre Brache initiated its conversion into a museum dedicated to contemporary art.
Your exploration will reveal more than 1000 works from 1940 to 1970, featuring prominent artists like Dubuffet, Michaux, and Hantaï, all against the stunning backdrop of this historic abbey.
