Garrocha Day Trip
Our adventure begins at 9 am in the Plaza Sant Feliu de Gerona as we set off towards Besalú, located approximately 35 minutes away.
Upon arrival, we'll enjoy two hours of exploration in this enchanting medieval village. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, we'll stroll through its cobblestone streets and uncover the rich history of the old town.
Next, we will venture into the Garrocha Natural Park, nestled in the pre-Pyrenees region. This area is home to over 40 volcanoes, offering many captivating insights. One highlight will be our visit to a medieval chapel situated within the crater of one of these volcanoes.
As we continue towards the Santa Margarida volcano, our path will take us to Castellfollit de la Roca, where houses dramatically cling to a basalt rock column. From this vantage point, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the River Fluvià below.
After soaking in the breathtaking surroundings, we'll proceed to a local restaurant. Here, you'll have one and a half hours of personal time to enjoy lunch at your leisure.
The journey will then lead us to the lovely village of Santa Pau, situated at the heart of La Garrocha. We’ll explore the Santa Maria church and the Castle, both notable examples of the region's medieval architecture.
Our day will conclude at the picturesque Lake Bañolas, where we'll take a leisurely walk along the lakeshore, learning about the area’s natural beauty and heritage. We plan to return to Girona by 5 pm.
