Join us on an exciting rafting adventure on the Matanuska River, where the stunning landscapes of southern Alaska await. Surrounded by the majestic Talkeetna Mountains, this journey also offers a unique view of the Matanuska Glacier from the river.

Day Trip Details

Our adventure begins at 38100 Glenn Highway, where we will gather for an informative introduction before heading to the starting location by vehicle. Are you ready to traverse one of the most remarkable riverbeds in southern Alaska?

Once we are fully equipped, we'll clamber into the raft to embark on a picturesque journey along the glacial waters of the Matanuska River, meticulously shaped by the glacier's erosion over time.

As we progress, we’ll encounter the riverbed dividing into numerous interconnected channels, a fluvial pattern common in areas enriched by glacial sedimentation.

Notice the distinctive milky hue of the water and, as we float downstream, we’ll appreciate the alluvial terraces edging the river and the morainic remnants from ancient glacial movements. A vibrant palette of colors unfolds around us, with may willow and alder forests, intermingling with other flora adapted to the challenging soil conditions.

Were you aware that the Matanuska River can shift its path in just a few days during the thawing season? This dynamic nature ensures that no two descents are ever the same, providing a distinctive experience each time.

As our delightful rafting expedition wraps up, we will return by vehicle to our original meeting point, concluding this journey after a total of 2 hours together.

Activity Requirements

Participants must meet specific weight criteria, with a maximum limit of 113 kg (249 lb) and a minimum of 45 kg (99 lb) to take part.
