Description

Experience the remarkable history and architectural magnificence of the Alhambra, Generalife, and Nasrid Palaces guided by a knowledgeable expert through this tour of one of Spain's most renowned landmarks.

Tour Overview

We will gather at the specified time outside the Alhambra to initiate our exploration of this cultural masterpiece, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Throughout the visit, we’ll delve into the resplendent Nasrid Palaces, the luxurious dwellings where the rulers of Andalusia cultivated the arts, fiercely embraced love, and ultimately faced the loss of their cherished Granada.

Within the walls of the Alhambra, which translates to Arabic as al Qal'a al hamra, or “red fortress,” we will journey through the three Nasrid Palaces: the Palace of Mexuar, the Palace of Comares, and the Palace of the Lions. At the latter, we will admire the renowned Court of the Lions with its iconic fountain, and nearby, observe another fountain stained red, a purported remnant of the rivalry between the Nasrid and Abencerraje factions.

The Alhambra is a vital piece of Art History. While making our way to the Palace of Charles V, we’ll examine the exquisite details of the Nasrid Palaces. It’s interesting to note that Charles V honeymooned in this palace with Isabella of Portugal; some accounts even suggest that Philip II of Spain was conceived within these storied walls.

Our guided exploration will continue through the remnants of the Medina and the Alcazaba, the fortress that historically safeguarded the entire complex. Here, we’ll encounter the Torre de la Vela, whose bell tolls each January 2nd in remembrance of the Catholic Monarchs' conquest of Granada.

This journey will also take us through the enchanting gardens of the Generalife. Once the serene getaway for Nasrid emirs, this lovely estate is adorned with fountains and irrigation channels, where political strategies and romantic endeavors were surely planned.

Availability

Access to the Alhambra is restricted, and tickets tend to sell out rapidly, so we advise securing your reservation well in advance, particularly during weekends and holidays.

If you find that there is no availability, we recommend another option: a Guided Tour of the Alhambra. While you won’t gain entry to the Nasrid Palaces, you will still experience other significant areas of this historical landmark.

Temporary Closures

Currently, the Alcazaba will not be open to visitors until further notice for safety purposes.

Itinerary Adjustments

In accordance with the conservation guidelines of the Alhambra, the starting time of this tour may be adjusted. We advise checking your phone and email 24 hours prior to your visit for updates.

Moreover, for logistical reasons, the order of visits described in this itinerary may be altered.

Small Group Option

For those who seek a more personalized experience, consider opting for a small-group guided tour of the Alhambra and Nasrid Palaces.

To enhance your experience, we recommend a private tour of the Alhambra and the Nasrid Palaces with your own dedicated guide.
