Tour of Granada Cathedral & Royal Chapel
Embark on a historical journey that transports you to the pivotal era of Granada's past. The adventure initiates near the Cathedral, where both structures stand as enduring symbols representing a significant societal shift from the Caliphate to a Christian monarchy. The diverse architectural styles embody the essence of Spain during this transformative period.
Your first destination will be the Granada Cathedral, erected to replace the original Mosque following the Granada Acquisition. The construction spanned an impressive 181 years, showcasing Baroque influences, despite initial plans suggesting a longer timeline. Strolling through this exquisite example of 16th Century architecture, a hallmark of the New Christians, you'll uncover fascinating details about its intriguing history.
After exploring the Cathedral, we will proceed to the Royal Chapel, the burial site of Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand of Aragon, lying alongside Joanna of Castile and Philip the Handsome. The significance of these historical figures, coupled with the stunning Carrara marble of their mausoleums, will leave a lasting impression. Additionally, you'll come across artifacts from Queen Isabella I, including her personal collection of Flemish paintings.
To conclude our visit, we will take a leisurely stroll through the charming old town.
