Ometepe Island Day Trip
Description
Explore Ometepe Island on this day trip from Granada. Visit El Ceibo Museum, the Ojo del Agua pool, and the Charco Verde reserve. Spend a day in nature!
Day Trip Details
After picking you up at your hotel in Granada, we'll take a 1.5-hour trip to the port of San Jose. There, we'll take a ferry to Moyogalpa and set sail!
During an hour of navigation on the Great Lake of Nicaragua, we'll be delighted with wonderful views of the largest lake in Central America while the volcanic cones rise in all their splendor.
Upon arrival, a vehicle will be waiting for us to tour the island of Ometepe. The first stop will be at the El Ceibo Museum, which has one of the most important collections of ceramics and archaeological pieces in Nicaragua. For 45 minutes, we'll uncover carved petroglyphs while discussing their beliefs, symbology, and way of life.
The route will continue to the Charco Verde Natural Reserve, a corner of lush vegetation. Once there, we'll take a 45-minute walk where we'll see the popular Congo monkeys, as well as tropical birds and butterflies.
Next up? We'll head to Ojo de Agua, a natural pool of sulfurous waters in the middle of the jungle. Here, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time to enjoy its facilities and have lunch at its restaurant. The perfect place to connect with the energy of the island.
Lastly, we'll visit Punta Jesús María, a sandbar that extends into the lake. From there, we'll get the best views of the Concepción and Maderas volcanoes reflecting on the water in the evening light. Cameras ready!
Finally, we'll take the ferry back to San Jorge, where a vehicle will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Granada, arriving 13 hours later.
