We will gather at the Cable Wharf, located along the scenic Halifax waterfront. From this point, we'll board the ferry destined for Georges Island, a perfect stop for enthusiasts of history. Prepare to unveil a unique aspect of Nova Scotia during your exploration.
In a brief 10-minute ride across Halifax's waters, we will reach the port of Georges Island. Once you disembark, you'll have the freedom to wander the island, ensuring you experience all it has to offer! This site is home to the remarkable Fort Warren and hosts one of the largest Civil War recreations found in the nation.
Established in 1833, the fort was designed to defend the region during wartime. Alongside diving into the area's rich history, we suggest exploring the island's wooded areas. You will be treated to stunning vistas of the Halifax coastline from a fresh vantage point.
Return to Halifax
To make your way back from Georges Island to Halifax, simply catch any ferry leaving from the island's dock. Remember that the ferry service between Georges Island and Halifax operates from 10:20 am until 3 pm, with departures occurring every 40 minutes.
Georges Island National Historic Site Schedule
The National Historic Site of Georges Island welcomes visitors on the following days and times:
- June 8 to 30, 2024: Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.
- July 4 to September 1, 2024: Available Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.
- September 7 to October 31, 2024: Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.

Important information
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at Cable Wharf, 1751 Lower Water Street, Halifax. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes in advance.
To return from Georges Island to Halifax, you can take any of the ferries departing from the island port. Please note that the ferry departs from Georges Island to Halifax from 10:20 am to 3 pm with a frequency of 40 minutes.
