El Djem, Douz & Kairouan 2-Day Private Tour
Description
Experience the enchantment of Tunisia's desert, rich cultural heritage, and stunning architecture on a captivating 2-day journey through El Djem, Douz, and Kairouan. This excursion allows you to explore some of the country’s most emblematic landmarks.
Description
Day 1: El Djem – Matmata – Douz
We will meet at your designated hotel in Hammamet at the scheduled time to commence our trip to the remarkable El Djem amphitheater, known for its breathtaking scale. As the third-largest amphitheater globally, it once accommodated up to 30,000 spectators eager to witness gladiator battles.
After delving into intriguing stories of the ancient gladiators, we will proceed to explore the unique Matmata cave-houses located in the Amazigh region. These remarkable dwellings, carved into the mountains, provide refuge from the severe desert conditions. You will have around one hour of leisure time to enjoy lunch at a local eatery (not included).
The adventure continues as we enter the Douz desert, the gateway to the Sahara. Here, as you take in the expansive dunes, you'll have the option to experience a quad bike or camel ride for an additional fee.
Following our desert escapade, we will settle in at a hotel in Douz, where you can unwind in preparation for another exciting day.
Day 2: Douz – Chott Djerid – Oasis - Kairouan
After enjoying breakfast (not included), our next destination will be Chott El Djerid, Tunisia's grand salt lake. This remarkable natural wonder spans an impressive 250 kilometers (155 miles) from east to west.
We will then journey to the Atlas mountains to visit the picturesque oases of Chebika and Tamerza. The last highlight of our 2-day adventure will be Kairouan, recognized as Islam's fourth holy city. Here, we will admire the exquisite facade of the Great Mosque as our guide shares insights into its significance in Islam.
Our excursion will conclude with a return to your hotel in Hammamet.
