Wineglass Bay & Freycinet Day Trip
Description
If you find yourself in Hobart and seek an unforgettable day trip, look no further than this excursion to Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park.
Description
On the day scheduled for your adventure, we begin with your pick-up from your accommodation in Hobart. Our journey leads us toward the stunning Wineglass Bay and the scenic Freycinet National Park, located on Tasmania’s east coast. This extraordinary area is celebrated for its striking pink granite mountains, welcoming wildlife, and dramatic coastlines. Remember to have your camera ready! Shortly after departing, we will pause at a local bakery, providing an opportunity to enjoy breakfast or a warm coffee at your leisure.
Just prior to our arrival at Wineglass Bay, we will stop at the charming Georgian town of Richmond. Here, we will visit the historic Richmond Bridge, the oldest bridge in Australia built by convicts that is still in operation. This remarkable structure symbolizes Tasmania’s convict past and has gracefully endured the passage of time. The picturesque landscapes surrounding Richmond are alive with fascinating wildlife, including friendly ducks.
Following our time in Richmond, we will journey eastward along the Great Eastern Drive toward the quaint village of Buckland. This village features the Church of John the Baptist, constructed in 1846 by convicts using local sandstone. We will uncover the history of its captivating stained glass windows.
Continuing on our Tasmanian adventure, we will arrive at the small coastal village of Orford. Nearby, we will visit Raspins Beach, where we can soak in the breathtaking views of Prosser Bay and Maria Island while sharing a few stories.
Our exploration will then take us into the Freycinet National Park, again traversing the Great Eastern Drive. Once we reach the park, we will dedicate approximately four hours to observing the beauty of this area. We will undertake a 45-minute walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout, where native wildlife is often spotted along the trail. Upon reaching the viewpoint, ample time will be allowed to appreciate the spectacular scenery before returning to the trail. Those interested may also choose to walk down to Wineglass Bay Beach.
While at the park, we suggest tasting some local dishes at nearby wineries. For seafood enthusiasts, a visit to the Marine Farm is highly recommended. Additionally, before leaving the park and heading back to Hobart, we will stop by Kate's Berry Farm for some delightful ice cream and other treats.
After a full day of exploration lasting approximately 11 hours, our tour of Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park will conclude. We look forward to seeing you again!
