Situated in the Houston Museum District, directly across from Hermann Park, the Museum of Natural Science opened its doors at the start of the 20th century and attracts over two million visitors annually.

A trip to the Museum of Natural Science is suitable for visitors of all ages, with exhibits catered to a diverse audience.

The museum boasts 12 permanent exhibitions, among which the following are noteworthy:

• Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. Hall: delve into the life of this philanthropist as you explore his passion for recreational fishing and the conservation of various marine species.
• Matter & Motion: Quantum Chemistry to Astrophysics: an ideal spot to discover the latest breakthroughs that scientists uncover on a daily basis.
• The World Around Us: perfect for the curious minds, this exhibition reveals captivating insights about our planet, including species differences, the water cycle, and the largest animals that roam the Earth.
• Cockrell Butterfly Center: venture into a vibrant environment teeming with butterflies, where you can appreciate their stunning beauty.
• Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals: witness remarkable specimens, such as a massive amethyst weighing 380 kg (837 lbs) alongside some of the most coveted treasures of the mineral kingdom.
• Morian Hall of Paleontology: embark on a journey back to the age of dinosaurs as ancient species come alive in thrilling survival scenarios.

The museum also showcases advancements in science, technology, and the future of scalable energy within the Wiess Energy Hall, features exquisite Fabergé eggs, and provides insights into Texas wildlife. There's something for everyone!

As your visit wraps up, take the opportunity to explore various temporary exhibitions hosted at the museum, such as Audubon's Birds of America, highlighting the art and legacy of the incredibly rare and significant book, The Birds of America by John James Audubon; or Death by Natural Causes, an intriguing installation that examines nature’s hazards, showcasing animals, plants, and minerals.

Opening Times

The Houston Museum of Natural Science welcomes visitors daily at the following hours:

• May 27 to August 10: 9 am to 6 pm
• August 11 to May 26: Mondays to Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm

The last admission is granted 30 minutes before closing time.
