We'll wander through bustling markets that pulse with local culture, delve into the ancient practices of Amazonian medicine, and navigate the renowned “Venice of the Amazon,” nestled along the Itaya River.

Tour Overview

At the agreed time, we will gather at the specified meeting location or, depending on your selected option, we can collect you from your hotel to commence our journey through the Belén neighborhood.

Our adventure will begin at the Belén market, a vital trading hub in the Amazon region of Peru. Among the lively stalls, we will encounter an array of tropical fruits, river fish, and local ingredients that characterize the region's cuisine. You'll gain insights into the cultural and historical relevance of these foods within local dietary practices.

Next, we will explore the renowned Pasaje Paquito, an enchanting passage celebrated for its array of traditional remedies, fragrant Amazonian scents, and healing plants. Here, our guide will share the historical applications of substances like mapacho and rapé in the spiritual rituals of indigenous populations, along with the plants used to create ayahuasca.

Then, we will move to the lower sector of the neighborhood, affectionately dubbed the “Amazonian Venice.” Our exploration of this distinct area will adapt to the season's weather and the water levels of the Itaya River.

During flood season, parts of the community will be submerged, prompting us to board a traditional canoe to navigate through raised homes, improvised rafts, and flooded streets. In the dry season (approximately June to October), the water recedes significantly, allowing us to traverse the area on foot through accessible alleyways and paths.

Throughout this journey, we will observe the clever ways local families adjust their lifestyles to the rhythms of the river. If we visit during flood season and time permits, we can also enjoy a fun optional piranha fishing experience.

Our exploration will last between 2 to 3 hours, concluding as we return to our initial meeting point.

Options for Participation

When making your reservation, you can select from two distinct choices:

• Tour without pickup: This option is suitable for participants who prefer to arrive independently. We will convene directly at the pier located on Iquitos Boulevard.
• Tour with pickup: Includes a tuk-tuk pickup service from your accommodation if it lies within the downtown Iquitos area (approximately within 1 km or 0.6 mi from the Plaza de Armas).

Adaptations to the Itinerary

Piranha fishing is an optional activity subject to seasonal river conditions. It is only feasible during flood season and contingent upon the time available at the markets. In the dry season (from June to October), this fishing activity will not be an option due to low water levels.
