Ajuy Caves & Sotavento Beach Day Trip
Description
If you haven’t yet discovered the south of Fuerteventura, this is the ideal day trip to visit the famous Ajuy Caves. We’ll also go to the Jandía Peninsula to discover the iconic Sotavento Beach in Costa Calma.
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll begin this tour of the south of Fuerteventura with pickup from your hotel. First, we’ll head to the town of Los Alares to visit the Casa del Queso, a real Majorero (from Fuerteventura) farm where we’ll learn about their way of life.
In addition, at this estate we’ll enjoy a tasting of products from Fuerteventura. Among the delights you’ll try, the island’s famous goat cheese with gofio (Canarian flour) won’t be missing. We’ll also try fresh cheese with paprika, smoked cheese, green and spicy mojo, cactus, papaya, and orange jam, honey rum, and almogrote (cheese paste).
At the end of this tasting, we’ll continue our route through the south of Fuerteventura with a 1-hour visit to the Ajuy Caves, considered the oldest grottos in the Canary Islands. They’re huge cavities formed by underwater lava flows and sediments. Their age is estimated at an incredible 100 million years!
After exploring the caves and their cliffs, we’ll go to Ajuy. In this small fishing village, you’ll have 1 hour of free time to enjoy Majorero cuisine at your own pace.
After lunch, we’ll head to Costa Calma to admire the 18 kilometers (11.2 miles) of the beautiful Sotavento Beach, considered one of the most beautiful in Fuerteventura. This bay on the Jandía Peninsula is also famous for hosting one of the events in the Windsurfing World Championship, held annually. You’ll have 1 hour of free time at Sotavento Beach to take a refreshing dip in the Atlantic Ocean.
Finally, we’ll begin the return journey to your hotel in Fuerteventura, where arrival is scheduled 7 hours after pickup.
