Jerez Alcazar & Cathedral Guided Tour
Description
Discover Jerez de la Frontera's incredible Islamic heritage: visit two of the city's most emblematic monuments, the Alcazar and the Cathedral.
Jerez Alcazar & Cathedral Guided Tour Itinerary
After meeting at the indicated time in Plaza del Arenal, Jerez de la Frontera's beautiful main square, we'll begin our walking tour around the city's most important and representative historic buildings and monuments.
We'll begin by strolling through Alameda Vieja Park, after which we'll arrive at the imposing Alcazar of Jerez. This building is one of a few structures that best exemplify Almohad architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. In fact, this former Arab palace fortress is the oldest monument in the city.
We'll pass through the City Gate to enter the monumental complex of the Alcazar. Here, we'll explore the Patio de Armas, the gardens, the Arab baths, the pharmacy, and the impressive Villavicencio Palace, a beautiful baroque structure constructed on the remains of an earlier Islamic palace.
Moving on from the Alcazar, we'll make our way to Encarnacion Square, where the Cathedral stands. Upon entering the cathedral, we'll be captivated by its unique blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical architectural styles. Inside, we'll visit the cathedral museum and the sacristies, where we'll be able to see the world-renowned La Virgen Niña en oración by Francisco de Zurbarán.
Our tour will conclude with a farewell in Plaza de la Encarnación, after 2 hours of exploration.
