Self-Guided Day Trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau
Description
This day trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau invites you to delve into one of the most significant and somber historical sites, allowing for a self-paced exploration of the area.
Trip Details
We will gather at 17 Floriana Straszewskiego Street at the designated time, after which our journey will take us from Kraków to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
After approximately 1.15 hours on the road, we will arrive in the town of O?wi?cim, a place that endured the horrors of Nazism from 1940 to 1945. During this era of World War II, the Third Reich established the Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau camps, where unimaginable atrocities were perpetrated, primarily against Jews and other prisoner groups.
Today, these grounds are part of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Your visit enables you to witness the sections where inmates lived, such as the cell blocks, barracks, and latrines, all of which retain a haunting atmosphere. The crematoriums, gas chambers, and barbed wire encompassing the site serve as stark reminders of the past.
Throughout the tour, you'll also view the iconic train tracks in Auschwitz, which once transported countless individuals from across Europe to a tragic fate. An English-language brochure will be available to help you gather insights about the historical significance of different areas within this impactful site.
Upon concluding your visit to Auschwitz, after 2.5 hours, we will reconvene to start our return trip to Kraków, with an estimated overall duration of 8.5 hours for the outing.
