Fushimi Walking Tour + Sake Tasting & Canal Boat Ride
Description
Embark on a guided walking tour through Fushimi, the historic district of Kyoto renowned for its sake production. This journey will take you past serene temples, include a scenic boat ride on the local canals, and reveal the deep cultural significance and flavors of one of Japan’s major sake regions, with a tasting experience included!
Tour Overview
Our adventure begins at Keihan Chushojima Station, where we will congregate at the North Exit at the scheduled time. Once everyone has arrived, we’ll kick off our guided exploration of Fushimi, recognized as Japan's second most significant area for sake brewing. Let's set off!
We will first visit the tranquil Choken-ji Temple, a hidden gem that offers a peaceful escape before we continue our journey. After our temple experience, we’ll board a traditional Jikkoku-bune boat for a serene cruise along the historic canals of Fushimi. These waterways once played a vital role in the transportation of sake barrels. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of willow trees, picturesque stone bridges, and charming historic warehouses that line the canals.
Post cruise, we'll delve into Kyoto's rich sake tradition at a local brewery. You'll discover how Fushimi's soft water characteristics contribute to the unique sake produced here. This visit will provide insights into age-old brewing practices and showcase traditional equipment. The highlight will undoubtedly be the opportunity to sample a selection of premium sake made with pure spring water from Fushimi!
Our final stop will be at Fushimi Yume Hyakushu, a delightful café housed in a beautifully restored building from the Meiji era. Here, you'll have the chance to savor a locally roasted coffee while absorbing the nostalgic charm of old Kyoto. We will conclude our tour after approximately 2.5 hours together.
