DreamTree XP Farm Visit

During this exploration of DreamTree XP, we will immerse ourselves in the enchanting world of La Fortuna’s forest. Prepare for an adventure filled with hiking and the opportunity to discover remarkable species that represent the essence of pure life!

Activities Available at DreamTree XP Farm

Upon making your reservation, you’ll have the chance to select from various activities. Each begins and concludes at the entrance of DreamTree XP farm and involves the company of an English-speaking guide. Are you ready to delve into the heart of La Fortuna?

Birdwatching (2 Hours)

Our day starts early as we put on our hiking boots and traverse trails adorned with the characteristic ferns of La Fortuna’s rainforest. With each step, we will learn to keenly observe the distinct curves of toucans and the quick movements of hummingbirds. Fun fact: these tiny birds can flap their wings up to 80 times per second!

As we continue, we’ll encounter parrots, flycatchers, and with a bit of good fortune, perhaps catch a glimpse of a quetzal. Every moment will deepen our understanding of why Costa Rica is celebrated for its vibrant biodiversity, with over 800 bird species calling it home. A quick pause will allow us to refresh with some fruit.

We will conclude this segment by taking in panoramic views from a lookout point within the protected area of DreamTree XP.

Night Hiking (2 to 2.5 Hours)

Equipped with our flashlights, we will set off from the butterfly garden, delving into the world of nocturnal species that often remain hidden. Did you know that some butterflies can exhibit fluorescent patterns after dark?

Next, we venture into the private reserve, searching for small frogs, reptiles, and, with a sprinkle of luck, an armadillo crossing our path. We will discuss how the forest transforms at night, exploring which creatures awaken, which seek refuge, and which call to attract mates. A brief interlude will allow us to savor some fruit.

As we proceed, we will realize that night brings with it a symphony of sounds, creating an enchanting atmosphere filled with life. We will end our hike enveloped in tropical twilight, feeling as if we have uncovered the hidden depths of La Fortuna’s spirit.

Sloth Spotting (2 to 2.5 Hours)

In this experience, our journey will concentrate on sloths. We’ll begin by identifying the subtle gray patches of fur that seamlessly blend with the tree trunks and branches. We will observe their slow, almost meditative movements as they navigate through the foliage.

Along the way, we might also encounter exotic birds, monkeys, unique plant species, and frogs seemingly from a tropical fantasy, all while the imposing silhouette of Arenal Volcano looms in the background. To enhance our experience, we’ll enjoy some fruit.

Additionally, we will make a brief stop at the farm’s butterfly garden, where we will reveal the incredible journey of these delicate beings, from cocoon to the moment they emerge with wings spread wide.

Night Amphibian Spotting (1.5 to 2 Hours)

As darkness envelops La Fortuna’s forest, we will embark on an exploration of the amphibian sanctuary of DreamTree XP. Wandering through tropical gardens where every leaf tells a story and every drop of moisture is vital to the ecosystem, we will use our flashlights to unveil both diurnal and nocturnal frogs.

Our trail will lead us to discover everything from tiny blue and yellow dart frogs to transparent species that seem to be made of glass. Interestingly, some frogs can slightly alter their color to help regulate their warmth. A quick pause will also offer us a moment to replenish with fruit.

We’ll journey deeper into the undergrowth, surrounded by the melodic chorus of croaks echoing through the air, as if the forest is serenading us. This sanctuary allows us to observe amphibians that would otherwise remain elusive, while we learn about their life cycles, ecological roles, and the challenges they face.

Guided Visit to the Butterfly Garden (1 Hour)

Are you ready to step into a garden that feels like a dream? Amidst vibrantly colored flowers, massive leaves, and warm breezes, we’ll witness dozens of butterflies fluttering about, as if painting the air with each flap of their wings. The guided visit will initiate with an insight into the complete life cycle of these fascinating beings, where we will observe everything from microscopic eggs clinging to leaves to voracious caterpillars with mesmerizing patterns, pupae, and finally adults emerging with their newly formed wings.

We’ll explore how butterflies feed, select specific plants for laying eggs, and perceive colors beyond our imagination. As we continue, we will uncover endemic species, transparent butterflies, iridescent wings, and patterns that serve as both camouflage and warnings. Did you know that some mimic toxic species to evade predators?
