Cannon Firing Ceremony in Havana
Your experience begins with a pickup from your accommodation at a designated time, after which we will head to the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, locally referred to as La Cabaña, the site of the renowned cannon firing ceremony.
This traditional cannon firing event is rooted in Havana's history and has origins that stretch back to the colonial period. Each evening at 9 pm, a cannon is fired to signal the closing of the gates that protect the city.
This practice, which emerged around 1774, was initiated as a defense strategy against frequent pirate assaults. Initially, the cannon was discharged from a boat in the harbor to notify residents of the imminent gate closure, later relocating to the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress. You'll appreciate the stunning views offered from this vantage point!
While the threats from pirates have faded into history, the cannon firing ceremony endures as a cherished tradition, complete with guard uniforms reminiscent of the 18th century, enhancing the authenticity of the experience.
Following the ceremony, we will return you to your hotel in Havana, with the entire experience lasting approximately 4 hours.
