El Choro Trail 4 Day Hike
Day 1: La Paz - La Cumbre - Challapampa
Your journey commences at 8:30 am when we pick you up from your hotel for a drive to La Cumbre, approximately 45 minutes from La Paz. Here, our 5-hour ascent of the El Choro Trail through the Andean range will begin.
We will pause for lunch along the trail. Upon reaching the Apacheta Chucura summit, soaring close to 16,000 feet (4,870 meters), we will begin our descent. As we navigate down the mountain, we will pass by the scenic Samaña Pampa and Chucura peaks until we arrive at Challapampa at an altitude of 9,560 feet (2,915 meters). After settling in, we will enjoy dinner before retiring for the night.
Day 2: Challapampa - Sandillani
Awakening to refreshing mountain air, breakfast will be served at 7:30 am, energizing us for a day filled with hiking. After packing our tents, we embark on a 7-hour trek through the lushest section of the El Choro Trail, taking necessary breaks along the way for rest and lunch.
Following the winding path of the Chucura River, we will encounter numerous streams, waterfalls, and traditional villages such as El Choro, located at 7,200 feet (2,200 meters). The village is notable for its dramatic suspension bridge, reminiscent of a scene from an adventure movie. Our destination for the day is Sandillani, where we will set up camp again, followed by dinner and a well-deserved night of rest.
Day 3: Sandillani - El Chairo - Coroico
On the third day, we rise early to enjoy a hearty breakfast before packing up. As we embark on our mountain hike, we will be enveloped by a mysterious ghostly mist that creates an ethereal atmosphere, making the surrounding peaks blend in and out of view.
After approximately 3 hours of trekking through the stunning mountain terrain connecting Sandillani to El Chairo, we will reach our next stop. A vehicle will be ready to transport us to the charming town of Coroico, renowned for its exquisite coffee. We will spend the night at a local hotel.
Day 4: Coroico - La Paz
As our adventure concludes, we’ll rise and enjoy a relaxed breakfast. The previous evening, we will have coordinated our departure time for the return trip to La Paz. After a 3-hour journey, we will arrive back in the vibrant capital of Bolivia.
