Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
Description
Embark on an intriguing journey highlighting the Neo-Andean architectural style in Bolivia with our tour dedicated to this remarkable movement in El Alto. Experience firsthand the vibrant, contemporary structures crafted by renowned architect Freddy Mamani.
Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
Our adventure begins at 9 am, meeting at the purple cable car station in La Paz, from where we will head westward towards the town of El Alto.
Once aboard the cable car, you’ll enjoy stunning views of La Paz from above, providing a perfect opportunity for memorable photographs. Known for its elevated position, El Alto sits at an impressive height of 13,100 feet (4,000 meters), reflecting a rapid urban growth that has led to an improved economic landscape for its residents.
Upon arrival, our guide will share insights about how architecture has shaped the area, particularly through the creation of vibrantly colored and innovative mansions. These unique buildings embody a blend of pre-Colombian influences and modern design, often referred to as cholets in Spanish.
As we wander through El Alto, you will encounter several of these striking structures and gain a deeper understanding of Freddy Mamani, a pioneer among indigenous architects. Additionally, we will utilize local public transport, allowing you to explore more of the remarkable cholets scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Our tour will also take us to select shops, where you can discover traditional costumes associated with the Preste, an indigenous celebration deeply rooted in the Bolivian Andes.
Finally, we will board the cable car back to La Paz, concluding our tour between 12 pm and 12:30 pm.
