Description
Embark on an engaging 2-day journey where you will explore the ancient remains of Shincal, the stunning Campo de Piedra Pómez, and the majestic Carachi Pampa volcano. This experience is one you will not want to overlook!
Trip Overview
Day 1: Exploring Shincal de Quimivil
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in La Rioja as we set off along Ruta 40 toward the esteemed Shincal de Quimivil Archeological Site. Prepare to delve into the fascinating world of the Incan Empire.
As we wander through this historic site, you will find yourself immersed in its pre-Columbian architecture. We’ll uncover the tales of the disappeared indigenous communities and examine their governance. What was daily life like for them? How did they wield their influence? What led to the decline of Shincal?
Next, we will visit London and Villa Vil, where the tranquil rural lifestyle of these communities awaits. Our journey will take us through the scenic Quebrada de Indalecio, climbing through hills until we reach the breathtaking Cuesta de Randolfo, renowned for its stunning geological formations. Prepare for amazing photo opportunities amidst picturesque vistas!
After a packed schedule of around 10-12 hours, we will conclude the day at your accommodation in El Peñón or Belén.
Day 2: Discovering Campo de Piedra Pómez and Carachi Pampa Volcano
Our expedition continues after a morning pickup from your hotel in El Peñón or Belén, as we head toward the remarkable Campo de Piedra Pómez. Are you set to witness the breathtaking scenery of Antofagasta de la Sierra?
Upon arrival at this protected natural area, you’ll be greeted by vast expanses of pumice stone along with the unique rock formations characteristic of the region.
We will then seek out another astonishing landscape: the Carachi Pampa Volcano. Towering over 3000 meters (9842 feet), this colossal volcanic cone overlooks the Laguna Blanca with its striking dark slopes. Can you envision a view more awe-inspiring?
Finally, we will make our way back to La Rioja, where you will be returned around 8 pm.
