Day 1
Upon your arrival at Lalibela Airport, you will be greeted and trasladado to your lodging in Lalibela. After settling in, we'll embark on an exploration of the renowned UNESCO-listed rock-cut churches, a highlight of Ethiopia.
Our first stop will be Bet Medhane Alem, a vast underground cathedral hewn from a single monolith, surrounded by a 12-meter deep trench. As we marvel at its majestic design, we will delve into the background of these 11 churches, constructed during the Zagwe Dynasty from the 11th to the 13th century.
Next, we will connect to the Church of Biete Maryam through a tunnel. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this remarkable church features vivid frescoes that adorn its interior walls. Our journey through Lalibela's churches continues with visits to Bet Golgotha and Bet Danaghel, where you will be awed by their breathtaking craftsmanship!
We'll wrap up the day with a return to the hotel in Lalibela.
Day 2
We will start early in the morning to witness one of Lalibela’s iconic churches during a religious ceremony that has been held for nearly nine centuries!
Following this spiritual encounter, we'll enjoy a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel before making our way to Bet Yemrehanna Kristo, a significant place of pilgrimage in Ethiopia. This church is situated inside a large cavern, which sets it apart as it wasn't sculpted from the rock like the others.
After a delightful lunch, our exploration of Lalibela will continue. We will visit Bet Gabriel-Rufael, constructed in a moat 10 meters deep, and Bet Abba Libanos, notable for having both its roof and floors still part of the original rock. Additionally, we’ll explore Biete Amanuel, believed to be the private chapel of the Ethiopian monarchy.
At the day's end, we will return to the hotel in Lalibela.
Day 3
After breakfast at the hotel, the day will be yours to enjoy at your own pace. At a scheduled time, we will transport you to the airport, concluding three remarkable days spent discovering the rock churches of Lalibela!
