Leticia Amazon 1 or 2-Day Trip
Description
During this expedition, participants will explore the concept of a maloca, which serves as the traditional housing of Indigenous groups in the Amazon. An optional choice is available to spend one night in the heart of the jungle.
Tour Overview
Our adventure kicks off at your accommodation in Leticia, as we venture to the jungle's edge for an immersive hiking experience in the Amazon.
This 3-hour trek will be guided by Indigenous experts who will share insights into the diverse plants we discover—be it for medicinal, culinary, or ornamental purposes—revealing the abundant varieties found in this rich ecosystem!
As our hike concludes, we’ll arrive at a traditional maloca, the iconic wooden structure utilized by local Indigenous communities. Here, an Indigenous leader will greet us with cultural chants and impart the knowledge of their traditions. Participants will learn about vital crops for communal survival and the profound respect these communities have for nature.
Throughout the experience, we’ll engage in both day and night excursions, offering opportunities to observe wildlife such as birds and monkeys, and intriguing nocturnal creatures like tarantulas and scorpions. We’ll also take refreshing swims in jungle lakes and try our hand at traditional fishing, allowing us to truly connect with the Amazon.
Culinary experiences will enrich our cultural journey as we savor local dishes and participate in creating mambe, a ceremonial food that is believed to impart strength and wisdom according to indigenous tradition.
Post-meal, we’ll gather back at the maloca for a closing discussion, where community members will offer a message of unity, respect, and gratitude, marking an unforgettable and authentic adventure in the depths of the Amazon.
Ultimately, our journey culminates with a return to Leticia, where we will drop you off at your hotel, wrapping up an immersive 9-hour tour.
Overnight Stay in the Maloca
For those interested in extending their adventure, the 2-day tour option includes an overnight stay in the maloca. Following lunch and a period of relaxation, we will embark on a night hike through the Amazon, lasting around 2 hours, during which participants will learn to identify key sacred plants of the tribe, such as mambe.
After this enlightening trek, we will return for dinner and rest, with options to sleep in a hammock outfitted with a mosquito net or within a traditional ancestral dwelling.
