Telica Volcano Hiking Tour

Embark on an exhilarating hiking adventure through a stunning volcanic terrain as you journey to the renowned Telica Volcano. Traverse lush tropical dry forests and witness the mesmerizing glow of lava under the night sky!

Hiking Tour Overview

At the scheduled time, an off-roading vehicle will collect you from your accommodation in León and transport you to the base of the Telica volcano. The one-hour journey takes you along rugged dirt roads flanked by dry subtropical woodland. During the ride, we’ll share insights to enhance your hiking experience.

We will drive until we reach approximately 650 meters (2,132 ft) above sea level, from where a 40-minute trek will commence, covering the final 400 meters (1,312 ft) up to the summit of Telica. Be vigilant along the hike, as you may observe active lava flows and the distinctive fumaroles releasing sulfur gases.

Upon reaching the summit, the awe-inspiring views of the Telica crater await. This active geological formation, featuring a crater 120 meters (393 ft) deep, offers a glimpse into its core before dusk. As the sun sets, we will stroll along the crater’s rim to enjoy the remarkable sunset, a sight to cherish! To enhance the moment, a light snack with cookies and fruit will be provided.

As night descends, we will head back to the Telica crater to observe the glowing lava, along with the atmospheric conditions unique to nighttime. Experiencing this natural marvel in the dark is bound to be unforgettable.

We will then make our descent down the volcano using flashlights, before returning to León, where you will be dropped off at your hotel approximately 6 hours later.
