Your adventure begins with a pickup from Lhasa Airport or the main train station. From there, we will transfer you to your hotel in Lhasa, where you can unwind or choose to start your exploration at your leisure; welcome to Tibet!
Day 2: Discovering Lhasa
Our first full day immerses us in the vibrant Tibetan culture. We start at the iconic Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. Here, you will discover the stunning architecture and rich history of this significant site.
Next, we head to the Jokhang Temple, where you will view the revered Sakyamuni statue and delve into the temple's captivating stories and heritage. Have you heard the legend of the two princesses and the Buddha?
As evening approaches, we wander through the lively Bakhor district, part of a sacred pilgrimage route for many worshipers heading to the Jokhang Temple. This vibrant area is also a great place to shop with local vendors offering handicrafts and unique items.
The day concludes with a traditional welcome dinner at a local restaurant, providing a delightful introduction to Tibetan cuisine.
Day 3: Lhasa and Beyond
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we set out to explore the lovely village of Dadong, situated in the picturesque countryside surrounding Lhasa.
On arrival, we visit the Nyimatang Monastery, an architectural jewel dating back to the 11th century. You will be captivated by its stunning design and historical significance. We then take a leisurely walk through the village, where you might meet a friendly local family and enjoy a meal with them, offering a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange.
Following lunch, we proceed to Sera Monastery, where you will witness a fascinating debate among Buddhist monks.
Later, we return to Lhasa to rest at our hotel after a fulfilling day.
Day 4: Journey from Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse
Following breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive from Lhasa to Gyantse. Prepare for awe-inspiring views as we traverse towering mountains and approach the stunning Yamdrok Lake, situated at nearly 4,500 meters (15,000 feet) above sea level.
In Gyantse, we explore the famous Palcho Monastery (or Pelkor Chode), known for its harmonious coexistence of three Tibetan Buddhist traditions. As we wander, you'll admire beautiful chapels, magnificent Buddha sculptures, and a remarkable stupa.
After a relaxing drive of about one and a half hours, we reach our hotel in Shigatse, a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.
Day 5: From Shigatse to Everest Base Camp
After breakfast at the hotel, we visit the Tashilunpo Monastery, the final resting place of the Panchen Lama, and home to an extraordinarily well-preserved statue of Jampa.
Next, we head to the quaint town of Lhatse for a delicious lunch before continuing our journey to Everest Base Camp. We’ll cross Tsola Pass and then Gyatsola Pass, leading us to the majestic Gawula Pass at 5,198 meters (17,053 feet) for breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
