What Will We Visit?
Throughout this half-day excursion, we'll explore the following destinations in sequence:
Larco Herrera Museum
Situated in the Pueblo Libre area, the Larco Herrera Museum boasts one of the most exquisite collections of pre-Columbian art in Latin America.
This museum is set in a meticulously restored viceregal mansion built atop a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. During our visit, you will have the opportunity to admire a significant array of pre-Hispanic artwork, including an impressive variety of gold and silver artifacts, alongside its renowned collection of erotic art.
Casa de Aliaga
Nestled on the main thoroughfare of Jirón de la Unión in the historic quarter, the Casa de Aliaga is recognized as one of the oldest family homes in the Americas. Constructed in 1535 shortly after Lima’s founding by Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez, a captain under Francisco Pizarro, this residence has remained in the same family for 17 generations.
Your visit will reveal a vast assortment of colonial-era furniture, alongside exquisite decorative pieces from that time.
Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima
Dating back to the 16th century, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima stands as a splendid example of colonial architecture, seamlessly blending Renaissance and Neoclassical elements.
Within its walls, we will traverse various naves and take time to appreciate the key sacred artworks housed in the most prominent chapels, including those dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, the Holy Family, and the Immaculate Conception.
Other remarkable features include the choir stalls, the high altar, and the chapter house, all showcasing the cathedral's artistic heritage.
