Lima Churches Tour
Our adventure begins at the designated meeting point outside the Church of the Nazarenas, where we will commence our exploration of the city's churches. The history of Lima is intricately woven with the tapestry of Catholicism, which was introduced by the Spanish conquistadores and furthered by the friars committed to evangelizing the indigenous populations.
Did you know that Lima is home to two saints and serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Peru? This tour will uncover these intriguing facts and more. Our first destination is the sanctuary and monastery of Las Nazarenas, an impressive religious site where the image of the Lord of Miracles is revered.
Next, we will proceed to the Sanctuary of Saint Rosa de Lima, where the revered saint, who spent her life in Lima during the 16th and 17th centuries, is commemorated. We will also visit the residence of Saint Martín de Porres, another important patron saint of the city.
As we continue our walk, we will reach the renowned Convent of Santo Domingo, immediately recognizing its striking rococo bell tower. Within this sanctuary rest the remains of three esteemed Peruvian saints: Saint Rosa de Lima, Saint Martín de Porres, and Saint John Macias.
The tour will then take us to the Plaza de Armas, where we will admire the stunning Cathedral of Lima, the final resting place of Francisco Pizarro, the city’s famed conqueror and founder. Following this, our path leads us to the Convent of San Francisco, recognized as one of Lima’s most iconic structures.
Finally, we will arrive at St. Peter's Basilica, a remarkable 16th-century edifice established by the Society of Jesus, celebrated for its architectural significance.
After four hours of delving into the spiritual legacy of this monastic city, we will conclude our tour at St. Peter's Basilica.
