Lima Churches Tour
Description
Discover the main religious landmarks and convents of the Peruvian capital with our guided tour of Lima's churches. This journey showcases stunning architectural highlights, including the revered sanctuaries of Saint Rosa de Lima and Saint Martín de Porres.
Lima Churches Tour
We will commence our exploration at the designated meeting point, which is the entrance of the Church of the Nazarenas. The rich history of the Peruvian capital is intricately tied to Catholicism, introduced by the Spanish conquistadores and nurtured by the friars who dedicated their lives to the spiritual conversion of the indigenous population.
While many may not know, Lima is home to two saints and serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Peru. During our tour, you will uncover these fascinating details. Our first stop will be at the sanctuary and monastery of Las Nazarenas, an impressive complex housing the venerated image of the Lord of Miracles.
Next, we will progress to the Sanctuary of Saint Rosa de Lima, where the acclaimed saint was both born and passed away during the 16th and 17th centuries. Following this, we'll visit the residence of Saint Martín de Porres, another venerated figure of Lima.
Our exploration continues as we head towards the Convent of Santo Domingo, marked by its stunning rococo bell tower. This site is also known as the burial place of three of Peru's most esteemed saints: Saint Rosa de Lima, Saint Martín de Porres, and Saint John Macias.
We will then arrive at the Plaza de Armas, where the magnificent Cathedral of Lima stands. This historic location is the final resting place of Francisco Pizarro, the famous conqueror and founder of the city. After admiring this landmark, we will proceed to visit the Convent of San Francisco, a vital part of Lima’s architectural heritage.
Our final stop will be St. Peter's Basilica, a 16th-century structure established by the Society of Jesus, revered as an exceptional masterpiece of architecture.
After four enriching hours of delving into the religious heritage of this monastic city, we will conclude our tour at St. Peter's Basilica.
