Description

Step into the rich history of colonial Lima through our guided visit to the historic Aliaga House. This site dates back to the very year Lima was established, representing one of the city's oldest architectural treasures.

Tour Overview

At the scheduled time, we will convene at Perú Square, the location of Aliaga House, one of Lima's enduring landmarks.

The origins of this impressive mansion trace back to Francisco Pizarro, the famed conquistador from Extremadura, who allocated land to his men in the newly formed Lima. Among those recipients was Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez, who ventured to the Indies at a young age and later became a significant figure in Peruvian conquest. The Aliaga family has resided in this historic home since its construction in 1535, coinciding with the founding of Lima.

Over the years, Aliaga House has been a silent witness to crucial events in Peru's past. During the Republican era, it notably served as a shelter for key figures such as President Miguel Iglesias, Rear Admiral Aurelio García, and Generals Manuel Velarde and Antonio Bentín.

As we wander through the opulent halls of Aliaga House, we will uncover stories of the family that has lived here for 17 generations. The tour includes a glimpse into the tiled living room and elegantly furnished bedrooms adorned with Louis XVI-style decor, exquisite French carpets, and delicate Japanese vases. From the sizable windows of the sumptuous dining room, we’ll also have a beautiful view of the courtyard, featuring a charming 19th-century English fountain.

Don't miss the beautifully preserved chapel, which once showcased walls plated with silver that were unfortunately stripped away during the War of Independence.

Following a comprehensive tour of the renowned Aliaga House, lasting just under three hours, we will conclude our visit and part ways.
