House Aliaga Guided Tour
Description
Step into the past and experience the colonial charm of Lima through a guided tour of a historic mansion. This visit takes you to one of the earliest edifices in the Peruvian capital, completed in the same year Lima was established.
Tour Details
At your selected time, we will gather at Perú Square, home to the impressive House Aliaga, a prominent landmark in Lima's history.
The origins of this residence trace back to the time of Francisco Pizarro. This famed conquistador from Extremadura allocated plots of land in the newly formed Lima to his companions, including the young Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez. At just 16 years old, he journeyed to the Indies and became one of the key figures in Peru's conquest. The Aliaga family has resided in this house since its construction in 1535, coinciding with Lima's establishment.
Throughout history, the Aliaga House has played a significant role in various events. During the Republican period, it served as a refuge for notable figures such as President Miguel Iglesias, Rear Admiral Aurelio García, and Generals Manuel Velarde and Antonio Bentín.
We'll wander through the ornate halls of House Aliaga while uncovering tales of the family that has called this place home for 17 generations. Our exploration includes the tiled living room and bedrooms adorned with Louis XVI-style furniture, exquisite French carpets, and delicate Japanese vases. From the grand windows of the opulent living room, we’ll gaze upon the charming courtyard featuring a 19th-century English fountain.
A highlight of our visit will be the chapel, once embellished with silver plates, tragically pillaged during the War of Independence.
After a fascinating tour lasting just under three hours at the iconic Aliaga House, we will conclude our guided visit and part ways.
