Welcome to the Codfish History Interpretation Centre! At this museum located in Lisbon, you’ll delve into a multitude of fishing expeditions that highlight the significance of cod in Portugal.
Your visit will reveal fascinating insights about the emblematic element of Portuguese gastronomy: for instance, did you know that cod can reach up to 20 years in age and can weigh as much as 90 kilos, with a single female capable of producing up to nine million eggs? Step back into the 15th century to explore the historic voyages of intrepid sailors to the icy waters of Greenland and Newfoundland in pursuit of cod. Additionally, you’ll engage in an immersive experience that allows you to grasp the solitude and the harsh climatic conditions endured by fishermen in the North Atlantic.
A virtual tasting area featuring over 1000 unique recipes, an exhibition on cod propaganda from the Salazar regime, and the current state of fishing amidst climate challenges... The Codfish History Interpretation Centre promises to leave a lasting impression!

The Codfish History Interpretation Centre welcomes visitors Monday through Sunday, from 10 am to 7 pm. On holidays (December 24 and 31, and January 1), operating hours are from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Cod History Interpretation Centre is open from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm, with the last entry at 6:30 pm. You can access at any time during its opening hours, but only once. On holidays (December 24 and 31 and January 1), it'll be open from 10 am to 5 pm.
