Clink Prison Museum
Description
Step back in time to the medieval era in London and explore the historic establishment known as The Clink. Inside the museum, a myriad of dark tales, instruments of torture, and cells filled with haunting memories await your discovery.
Description
The echoes of chains and pleas for liberation from the famished prisoners linger in the air. Although considerable time has passed since the oldest prison in the UK ceased operations, its legacy is preserved at the Clink Prison Museum.
Originally constructed in 1144 along the southern banks of the River Thames, this prison served as the residence for Henry of Blois, the Bishop of Winchester, and was the sibling of King Stephen. Over the years, numerous debtors, sex workers, heretics, and criminals entered through the gates of The Clink, which operated in the region known as the Liberty of the Clink from 1151 until it was destroyed in a fire in 1780.
Your admission to The Clink Prison allows you to explore the premises at your own pace. You will encounter a variety of historical artifacts and torture devices that were once utilized within its walls.
During your stay, you are also encouraged to capture a photograph in one of the historical cells or any other spot of your choosing.
