Here, you’ll find a suggested order for your ascent to Mount Pilatus, and the best part is—all tickets are included to ensure a smooth travel experience!
Step 1 - Bus to Kriens: Begin your adventure by making your way to the Lucerne train station before taking bus number 1 towards Kriens. Enjoy an 11-minute scenic ride, followed by a brief walk to reach the valley station in Kriens.
Step 2 - Gondola to Krienseregg: Next, board the panoramic gondola for a serene 15-minute ascent to Krienseregg. We suggest a stop at Restaurant Krienseregg, where you can take in the serene local atmosphere from the terrace.
Step 3 - Gondola to Fräkmüntegg: Continue your adventure with another 15-minute gondola ride to Fräkmüntegg. This location offers various activities, including an exciting rope park, and the self-service restaurant serves local dishes.
Step 4 - Cable Car to Mt. Pilatus: Prepare for an awe-inspiring ride on the Dragon Ride cable car, which features a unique helicopter-inspired design and expansive windows. In just five minutes, you’ll reach the peak of Pilatus Kulm, standing at an elevation of 2,132 meters (6,994 feet).
Step 5 - Leisure Time at Mt. Pilatus: Upon reaching the summit, soak in the breathtaking panoramic vistas of Lake Lucerne and the magnificent Swiss Alps. Spend your time wandering around the panoramic gallery, unwinding on the terrace, or taking a short trek to nearby peaks. For hiking enthusiasts, the summit offers numerous trails on the famed Dragon Mountain. If hunger strikes, consider dining at the restaurants in Hotel Bellevue or Hotel Pilatus Kulm.
Step 6 - Cogwheel Train to Alpnachstad: When it’s time to descend, board the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, established in 1889. This thrilling descent will take you past rugged cliffs, alongside streams, and through alpine meadows filled with colorful flowers, ending in Alpnachstad.
Step 7 - Train to Lucerne: From Alpnachstad, you will enjoy a scenic train journey back to Lucerne, concluding your adventure in approximately 3.5 to 6 hours.

When making your reservation, you can select either a first or second-class ticket for the train ride from Alpnachstad to Lucerne. First-class seating provides greater comfort and spaciousness.

Your route will start at the bus stop in front of the Lucerne train station. From this point, you can take the bus line 1 to Kriens (in the direction of Obernau) at the time of your choice.
If you decide to start your trip by scenic train, you will follow this itinerary: https://cdn2.civitatis.com/suiza/lucerna/galeria/ruta-inversa-excursion-libre-monte-pilatus.jpg. In this case, your route will start at Lucerne train station, where you will take the S5 train to Alpnachstad (towards Giswil) at the time of your choice.
Regardless of the route you choose, this booking voucher is valid for the following means of transport:
- Bus between Lucerne and Kriens (or vice versa)
- Cable car gondola between Kriens and Fräkmüntegg (or vice versa)
- Dragon Ride cable car between Fräkmüntegg and Pilatus Kulm (or vice versa)

- Rack Railway between Pilatus Kulm and Alpnachstad (or vice versa; seat reservation not included)
