Toledo & Consuegra Windmills Day Trip
Description
Experience a captivating day trip to Toledo and the windmills in Consuegra, where you'll encounter one of the region's most iconic scenes in Castilla-La Mancha and explore the historic windmills that inspired Cervantes in his renowned work Don Quixote.
Details of the Day Trip
We'll commence our adventure at the Naval Museum in Madrid, departing from the city to embark on a journey toward the renowned windmills of Consuegra.
After a 1.5-hour drive, we will find ourselves in the picturesque town of Consuegra, a gem in the province of Toledo known for its iconic windmills that dominate the skyline.
Upon arrival, you'll be drawn into the tale of Don Quixote, experiencing the essence of Miguel de Cervantes' literary masterpiece. Our visit will include a tour of the eight standing windmills of Consuegra, recognized as one of Spain’s largest and best-preserved complexes of its kind.
Moreover, you'll have the opportunity to explore one of these windmills, gaining insights into its design and functionality—an enriching aspect of the visit!
By around 1:30 pm, we'll depart from Consuegra and make our way to Toledo. Here, we will cross the Alcántara Bridge and arrive at the Plaza de Zocodover. In the square, there is an option to partake in a tasting of local delicacies featuring items such as jamón ibérico de bellota (acorn-fed Iberian ham), a variety of Manchego cheeses, garden-fresh tomatoes drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, patatera ibérica (a dish of Iberian pork and mashed potatoes) from Extremadura, lomo ibérico de bellota (acorn-fed Iberian pork loin), along with fresh bread and a choice of two drinks like water, wine, or soda.
Following this, you'll enjoy two hours of free time to roam Toledo at your leisure. We will gather again and proceed to the Mirador del Valle, which offers some of the most breathtaking views of the city.
The day trip will wrap up with our return to Madrid, concluding approximately 10 hours after we started.
