Secrets of Madrid Evening Tour
Description
The historical center of Madrid conceals myriad enigmas, ominous tales, and hidden narratives often overlooked by the casual observer. Are you prepared to uncover the obscure past of this vibrant city?
Tour Overview
We will convene at the appointed hour in front of the Monastery of la Encarnación located in Plaza de la Encarnación. Established in 1611, this site houses numerous infamous stories; let’s embark on this discovery!
Beginning our adventure into Madrid's shadowy history, we will make our way to the Royal Palace, where it is believed the spirit of Philip II roams in search of valuables, before continuing to the Teatro Real, reputed to be haunted by the apparition of a woman dressed in white.
Next, we will traverse Calle de San Nicolás and Calle del Sacramento, some of the most ancient streets of the city. Here, we will unravel tales filled with political and romantic intrigue, alongside accounts of forbidden interactions between communities, and the pervasive influence of the Spanish Inquisition, which created mistrust among neighbors throughout Madrid.
Our journey will lead us to the Plaza de la Villa, recognized as one of the most historically significant squares. For generations, this was the center of civic life in Madrid, where justice was executed in ways that might raise goosebumps, and according to local lore, certain spirits linger from the past.
We will then visit the church of San Ginés, one of the city's oldest places of worship, famous for the marital union of Lope de Vega and the baptism of Quevedo. A more sinister tale emerges from the late 16th century, when intruders raided the church for gold and silenced a praying man. Legend holds that his ghost has maintained a watchful eye ever since.
Our exploration will conclude at Puerta del Sol, and after 2 hours and 15 minutes of delving into Madrid's concealed stories, we will part ways in the very heart of the city.
