Description

The Trastámara, Habsburg, and Bourbon monarchies have each played a significant role in the governance of Spain. Securing a ticket for the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid allows you to delve into the rich history of these dynasties through a remarkable collection.

Why Explore the Royal Collections Gallery?

Nestled between the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Collections Gallery stands out as a unique museum that showcases the legacy of the Spanish Crown.

With your ticket, you can leisurely discover the museum’s permanent collection. The journey begins on the -1 floor, known as the Habsburg Floor. Here, visitors gain insights into the Trastámara dynasty, the lineage of the Catholic Monarchs, and the monarchs who ruled before Charles II.

As you navigate this level, explore rooms dedicated to the illustrious Habsburg monarchs: Charles I, Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV, and Charles II. This floor also features archaeological artifacts linked to the ancient Arab wall of Madrid.

Noteworthy highlights include:

  • Portrait of Isabella the Catholic by Juan de Flandes
  • Flemish tapestries
  • The armor of Charles I
  • Masterpieces by El Greco, Titian, and Bosch
  • A captivating painting of a white riderless horse by Diego Velázquez
  • The sculpture of Archangel Saint Michael vanquishing the devil by La Roldana

Continuing to floor -2, the Bourbon Floor presents an exhibition dedicated to the kings and queens of the House of Bourbon: Philip V, Louis I, Ferdinand VI, Charles III, Charles IV, Ferdinand VII, Isabella II, Alfonso XII, and Alfonso XIII. In this segment, you can admire:

  • 18th-century furnishings, clocks, tapestries, and artworks
  • A royal carriage from the 19th century
  • Historic photographs of royalty from the early 20th century
  • Musical instruments of historical significance
  • Artworks by Velázquez, Caravaggio, and Goya

Additionally, from the Royal Collections Gallery, enjoy stunning views of the Manzanares River and the gardens of Campo del Moro, whose paths are also worth a stroll.

Temporary Exhibitions

Your ticket grants access to the temporary exhibitions at the Royal Collections Gallery. During your visit, explore the following exhibits:

  • Weaving Courtly Life (June to October 2026): delving into the significance of textiles, embroidery, and lace in royal life
  • Unusual Wonders (December 2026 to March 2027): showcasing curiosities and rare items from the royal collections spanning five centuries

Types of Tickets

When reserving your ticket, only general admission tickets are available for purchase.
