Royal Kitchen Tickets
Description
Exploring the kitchen of Madrid's Royal Palace invites you to step into the rich culinary history of royalty. Securing your tickets grants you access to the best-preserved Royal Kitchen in Europe.
The Royal Palace Kitchen Experience
With your purchased tickets, you'll access one of the most significant and well-maintained areas of the largest palace in Western Europe.
This kitchen served the Spanish royal family over the centuries and is celebrated for its impressive scale, historical background, and the invaluable artifacts it contains. Remarkably, only a few royal palaces across Europe have managed to maintain a comparable collection.
Your visit will transport you through time as you discover the development of royal culinary practices from 1760 to 1931. Witness the introduction of modern technology in the kitchens, the intricate plumbing systems, and the carefully organized tasks overseen by the Head Chef, who ensured the royal tables were always well supplied.
Highlights of the Historic Kitchen
As you explore, you’ll have the opportunity to see several key areas within this culinary complex:
- Kitchen Entrance and Dumbwaiter: Enter through the newly renovated entrance from Isabella II’s reign, where the remarkable dumbwaiter features prominently. This ingenious device transported meals up to the palace's main floor, evolving from pressurized water to electromechanical operation in 1911.
- Bouquet Room (Sala del Ramillete): This room was dedicated to crafting sweets, cakes, ice cream, and the court’s famous chocolate. You’ll marvel at the 1844 bouquet oven, the sizeable copper bain-marie, and a unique collection of chocolate molds.
- Pastry Workshop: Nestled below the Prince's Gate, this compact, windowless space focused on delicate creations, including traditional Easter eggs.
- Ante-Kitchen (La Antecocina): A vital area for pre-cooking and butchering, showcasing long work tables, a tiled washing basin, and old iceboxes essential for preserving food.
- Kitchen Room (Sala de fogones): The core of the Royal Kitchen features French wood-burning stoves from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the impressive kitchen from 1906, along with a grand rotisserie, grill, and a unique heating cabinet utilizing smoke heat.
- Wine Cellar (El Cuartón o Cava): Once a storeroom for baking supplies, this space transformed into a wine cellar in the late 19th century. Here, you will learn about the history of royal feasts and wine pairings.
Your tour of the Royal Kitchen will last approximately 45 minutes.
