The first royal resident was Charles III. Today, it serves as the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, primarily for ceremonial functions and official gatherings.

Ticket Options

When arranging your visit, you can select from the following ticket options:

• Royal Palace Ticket: You can explore the main rooms of the palace as outlined above. Be aware that your visit must occur at the chosen time; entry at a different time is not permitted.
• Royal Palace + Gallery of the Royal Collections: This option includes access to the palace along with an exhibition featuring 650 items, ranging from remnants of the Arab wall of Madrid to unique furniture pieces. Note that the entry time on your ticket applies specifically to the Royal Palace, whereas the ticket for the Gallery of the Royal Collections is valid at any time within seven days after your visit, excluding the free entry hours from Monday to Thursday, 6 pm to 8 pm.
• Royal Palace + Kitchen: This option allows you to tour the palace's rooms along with the kitchen, notable for its extensive size, historical significance, and the quality of its fixtures. Few palaces in Europe have preserved such a space! Its current form reflects renovations completed between 1760 and 1931. Importantly, the Royal Palace visit is unguided, while the kitchen tour is guided. The time you select for your visit pertains specifically to the Kitchen; you may tour the remainder of the Royal Palace either before or afterward.

Fare Info

The following ticket prices are available:

• Basic fare: aimed at adults.
• Reduced fare: children aged 5 to 16, seniors over 65, and students up to 25 years may take advantage of this rate.
• Free admission: those unemployed, individuals with disabilities, members of large families, and children under 5 qualify for free entry, albeit not for the kitchen tour.

It is important to note that these rates are greater than the prices at the ticket office, as they include a handling charge ranging from 1EUR to 6EUR per person, ensuring your reservation and preventing any lines. However, even without waiting in line at the box office, you will still need to complete a security check.

Madrid Royal Palace Opening Hours

Presenting the following operational hours:

• From October to March: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
• From April to September: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
• The ticket offices close and final admission is one hour before the palace's closing time.

Free Admission

Free access is offered during the following periods:

• From October to March: Monday to Thursday, between 4 pm and 6 pm.
• From April to September: Monday to Thursday, between 5 pm and 7 pm.

Important: Visits to the Royal Kitchen (Real Cocina) and the Royal Pharmacy (Real Botica) are prohibited during these free entry hours.

Temporary Schedule Changes

Due to receptions, institutional meetings, and various events, the Royal Palace may close unexpectedly at certain times or on specific days. For the latest updates, please consult the official website of Patrimonio Nacional de España.

On October 9, 21, and 22, 2026, the Royal Palace of Madrid will close early at 3 pm.
