Malé & Villimale Full-Day Tour
Description
If you aim to fully experience the Maldives during your visit, consider embarking on a guided tour through Malé along with an exploration of the island of Villimale. This journey provides a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of the local community.
Malé & Villimale Tour
Our adventure starts at the Malé Ferry Terminal at the agreed time, where we'll set off on a brief stroll towards the oldest educational institution in the city. Notably, Malé boasts an impressive literacy rate of 98%.
After visiting the school, we will proceed to the Malé Friday Mosque. As the second-largest mosque on the island, its remarkable architecture and surroundings will be highlighted, alongside stories of notable individuals who rest here, shared by our knowledgeable guide.
Next, a visit to the Royal Garden Café awaits, where you'll have the chance to sample traditional black tea. Following that, we'll take a moment to reflect at the 3rd November Memorial. Do you know what significant event this monument commemorates?
We'll then head towards Sultan Park, now referred to as Rasrani Park. Home to the National Museum, visitors have the option to enter and delve into the rich history of the Maldives (entrance fee not included).
As our journey draws to a close, we will make a stop outside the Islamic Centre to understand the vital role Islam plays within Malé. Following this, we'll walk by the renowned Independence Square, also known as Jumhooree Maidhaan, a historical political hub that promises to impart new knowledge.
Afterwards, we'll explore a fish market, an opportunity to mingle with local residents and gain insight into the island's lifestyle. Here, a delicious Maldivian lunch will also be served.
Refreshed and ready, we'll take a taxi to the ferry terminal. From there, we'll board a boat and sail towards Villimale. Once a prison island, it now serves as a tranquil retreat from the city's hustle.
As we wander the island for about an hour, we will learn about its distinct way of life and meet representatives from the local NGO, Save the Beach, who will inform us about their initiatives to preserve the island's and ocean's cleanliness.
Our next stop will be at a local café to savor a traditional hedika, featuring a variety of pastries paired with black tea. After this enjoyable break, we’ll head back to the ferry, concluding our tour at the starting point after a fulfilling 8-hour experience.
