This remarkable initiative spurred a swift escalation of the railway system toward Manacor, Sa Pobla, and Felanitx, achieving its zenith in 1920 with over 280 kilometers (174 miles) of railway.

Following a significant decline in the mid-20th century brought on by the onset of automobile usage and the decommissioning of certain tracks, a resurgence in public demand led to the establishment of the public entity Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) in 1994. This museum honors that revitalization along with the important preservation of the island’s industrial past, which now focuses on electrification and promoting eco-friendly transport.
